Happy Birthday Bono; U2 Lead singer celebrates 56th birthday

Bono, the lead singer of the rock band U2 celebrates his 56th birthday today. Happy Birthday Bono! Born on May 10, 1960, in Dublin, Ireland, Bono has become as well known for his charitable works as he has for his unique, vocal style that has kept him in the forefront of music news for decades. Bono's accomplishments apart from music are just as noteworthy and he was granted honorary knighthood status by Queen Elizabeth II; however, due to his Irish heritage, he is unable to be called "Sir" as that is an honor reserved solely for Brits.

Born, Paul David Hewson, he grew up in Finglas, and it was there he was granted the
nickname "Bono" from friends.

While some think that Bono's sunglasses are just part of his fashion style, the iconic musician and
singer wears the glasses because he suffers from glaucoma. Bono has been married to Allison (Stewart) Hewson since August 21, 1982. The couple began dating in 76 and have four children together: Jordan (b. May 10, 1989), Memphis Eve (b. July 7, 1991), Elijah Bob Patricius Guggi Q (b. August 17, 1999), and John Abraham (b. May 20, 2001), as reported by AtU2.com

Check out the videos below to learn more about Bono. Do you have a favorite U2 song? As the years pass by, I realize that some of my favorite U2 songs have stayed with me throughout the years. I particularly love All I Want Is You , Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and With or Without You.
There was a film in 1994 starring Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke called Reality Bites. There is a scene from the movie where All I Want Is You is played and it is the perfect song for this scene in the film. Now, every time I hear this song, I think of the film.

I first heard U2 back in the 80s, when I was in high school. I had no clue who the band was and there was a girl at my school who was the ultra fan. She was a bit punk in her dress, had a mohawk and had U shaved into one side of the mohawk and 2 shaved into the other side.

I asked her what it meant, and voila. she whipped out her walkman and I heard Sunday Bloody Sunday and listened to her go on and on about this radical Irish, Catholic, Christian non-denominational band that had changed her life. I wasn't as devoted as she was on my first listen, but I definitely liked the band and have considered myself a fan over the years. Would I shave U2 in a mohawk on the sides of my head? Probably not. But, my guess is U2 continues to have that impact on some of their fans, even after all these years.

Happy Birthday, Bono! May you stay in good health!
